Running an auberge

In a talk tailor-made to her audience, Julia will walk you through the basics of working in the French tourist industry including current legislation, an insight into marketing and publicity and some guidelines for establishing a successful business, whatever the scale.  The seminar, ‘Working in the French Tourist Industry and Getting it Right!’ will be held everyday in the Flavours of France theatre.

In 2004, a love of cycling and the mountains, combined with a strange desire to take on a business she knew nothing about, saw Julia Stagg move to the Ariège-Pyrenees region of France with her husband. Over the next six years they set up and ran a small Auberge and restaurant, learnt French the hard way and discovered that they could spend lots of time together without killing each other. Julia was also able to add chambermaid, receptionist, cleaner and chef to her CV all in one go.

In 2010, due to full-time writing commitments, Julia and her husband sold the Auberge as a successful concern. They currently divide their time between the Yorkshire Dales and the Ariège-Pyrenees and Julia is busy writing the sequel to her debut novel, appropriately titled L’Auberge.  The book will be available at the show’s bookshop and Julia will be more than happy to sign your copy.

You signed a copy of L'Auberge for me at Olympia in September which I loved reading. I hope that all Drench commune don't have as much intrigue and subtefuge going on! Look forward to the sequel and will try to get to see you in January.
